DL904-MSc Cyberpsychology

Cyberpsychology is the study of the human mind and behaviour in the context of human-technology interaction. This is the course for anyone wondering what the psychological basis for cyberbullying is, or why social networking sites and online media are so popular. Discover what motivates people in online settings including online shopping, dating, and gaming. Examine whether it's true or not that people can become "addicted" to the internet, what motivates cybercriminals, how we engage with information online, and how organisations can best utilise the internet.

What will I do?

The course provides students with an in-depth understanding of how humans interact with technology and in online environments. Classes are held over two academic years and involve a mix of learning, lectures, videos, practical work and informal discussions around important topics in cyberpsychology. Students complete a research project during the second year, and are encouraged to present their work through conference papers and journal articles. There is also a series of study skills seminars including essay writing, referencing and researching. Students are required to complete assignments individually and in groups during the year, but there are no end-of-year examinations.

What future careers will be open to me?

Graduates have found employment with social networking websites or as usability experts and online investigation specialists. Others have improved their performance in their current employment as journalists, marketing specialists, educators or IT professionals.

This programme will take place primarily online for 2025/26

Induction for this programme will take place online provisionally 24th September 2025. Classes take place Wednesday evening [6pm-9pm] and Saturdays [10am-2:30pm].

There will be two blocks of Hybrid Learning i.e. Option of in-person learning OR Live Online learning over the course of the academic year; one each term.

Min Entry Requirements Undergraduate qualification of 2nd Class Honours or higher at Honours Degree level.

Applicants may be considered provided they can demonstrate Honours Degree equivalence, which can be verified through our RPL (recognition of prior learning) process.

Previous psychological study not essential.

Shortlisted applicants may be called for interview.
